How the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is Helping in the Fight Against Violations of Civil, Human and Migration Rights

As the world’s economies are progressing, more people are relocating to other countries in pursuit of education, employment opportunities, and adventure. Others have been forced to relocate from their native nations because of violence caused by political instability.

It should be noted that migrants are worth more than their immigration status. This is despite the circumstances that one passes through to become a migrant. Delegates from different nations recently met at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, to address this international issue. The conference, which was titled “Global Compact on Migration,” was about immigration policies and xenophobia. In the meeting, the delegates expressed their concerns about the launch of an international migration agreement.

They were hoping that the UN agreement would address migration matters comprehensively and holistically.

The person is still human and is entitled to human rights that other citizens enjoy. The International Migration Bill of Rights and its related legal commentaries were enacted to protect these individuals. This legal statute provides insights on how the international law covers migrants.

The legal statute also serves as a resource for advocates, migrants, countries, and international organizations. It is unfortunate that cases of violations of migrants’ human rights are being reported in the U.S. and other nations. Furthermore, most of the victims of these violations are unaware of the channels to follow to seek justice. Others are scared about being deported back to their native nations.

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

Legal frameworks give insights on how migrants and human rights activist groups should operate. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is among the critically-acclaimed non-profit organizations funding human rights advocacy groups in Arizona.

It is dedicated to supporting organizations that advocate for migrant and human rights. This organization was founded by two vocal journalists, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey.

The story behind the organization’s inception is quite incredible. At first, Lacey and Larkin worked as journalists who also founded Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media. A sheriff once arrested the two journalists without any arrest warrant. They managed to win $3.75 million as settlement for being unlawfully detained and donated the money to human rights activist groups based in Arizona.
