George Soros Regroups After 2016 Election

It is no secret that George Soros put much of his considerable wealth behind Democratic candidates and organizations that support liberal causes. During this election cycle, Soros has backed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. According to Federal Election Commission (FEC), he has contributed more than $25 million to super PACs that back Clinton.

He has also pledged $2 million to the super PAC American Bridge 21st Century among others. His contributions have had mixed results as Clinton was defeated by Donald J. Trump in this election.

But George Soros scored a victory by contributing $2 million to Maricopa Strong, a super PAC who’s sole mission was to defeat controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Soros has been a longtime donor to Democratic candidates and he backed Barak Obama in 2008 when the one-term Senator ran for the highest office in the land. Even though he has had a long relationship with Hillary Clinton, Obama’s rival in 2008, Soros decided to back Obama. This is a decision that some say he now regrets.

Shortly after Clinton’s defeat, Soros and other prominent Democratic donors met in Washington, D.C. to reassess their efforts and plan for the future. One thing they have all decided on is to back efforts to resist a Trump presidency and to “take back power.”

Soros has been critical of Trump and the way he has run for the presidency. In a candid moment, Soros declared that Trump is “going the work of ISIS.” This comment has caused some outrage among the members of the Republican party and the conservative movement. However, George Soros has a unique view of authoritarian governments.

Born in Hungary in 1930, Soros spent his younger years living under Nazi and then Communist rule. As a refugee, he moved to England where he studied and the London School of Economics. Both his experience living under totalitarian rule and living as a refugee gives George Soros much credibility when dealing with apparent autocrats like Trump.

As the founder of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), Soros has spent the last few decades fighting for human rights around the world. He has pushed for more transparency in governments and OFS has worked to hold governments accountable to their citizens.

There is no doubt that Soros and other wealthy donors will continue the fight here in America and challenge the Trump Administration to be as transparent as possible. It is every citizen’s right to hold their government accountable and Soros will continue to fight for that right.
