The Latino Music Industry Has A New Star: Norka Luque

The Latino music industry is a thriving business. Latino musicians are among the best musicians in the world. Artists like Santana, Lopez, Shakira, Estefan and the late Juan Gabriel are legends in the industry. They became legends because of their talent and the hours of touring, recording and producing that consumed their lives. Not all Latino musicians’ crossover into the mainstream music scene. Juan Gabriel is an example of a Latino singer that was recognized in Latin America, but in the United States his music was isolated, and it was only heard on Latino music stations. Breaking into the mainstream music scene is a challenge for most Latino singers, but some artists make it. One of the newcomers that is crossing over into the pop music world is Norka Luque.

The 30-year-old Luque was nominated for the best female vocalist award in 2014 by the Latino Music Industry. Her second single was a chartbuster, and radio stations in Miami, New York, and LA gave her song, Milagro, airtime. Norka’s career was in full bloom in 2014, but in 2015 health issues stopped the music. Luque was diagnosed with epilepsy, and she underwent an intricate operation to correct the devastating illness. After months of therapy, Luque returned to her first love and began recording again.

Music is only one part of Norka’s story. She was born in Venezuela. Her family left the socialist country and settled in Fort Lauderdale so Norka could continue taking voice and piano lessons and complete her lower education. The Luque’s knew Norka had talent before they left Venezuela. Norka was cast in a musical when she was eight, and that was when she developed her love for singing and performing.

With her parent’s consent, Norka spent four years in France studying business administration, fashion, and the culinary arts. She became a lead singer in a rock group while she was in school in France, but she accepted a job in the financial business in Monte Carlo before she returned to the music world.

Returning to the Miami area was a good move for Norka. She started singing again, and the legendary music producer, Emilio Estefan heard about her. Estefan signed Norka to a recording contract, and that has changed Norka’s life. Norka is working with Estefan and Archie Pena and other famous producers and composers now.
